Weather Update: Gujarat stays under red alert, Delhi in orange alert, Mumbai to see moderate rain

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for 15 states in northern India for July 2 and 3, anticipating moderate to heavy rainfall.

A red alert is in effect in Gujarat, with the weather office forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in the state on July 3, following the onset of the southwest monsoon across the country this week.

The most recent prediction indicates that severe to extremely heavy rain is anticipated to fall over Gujarat on Wednesday. The meteorological department has forecast extremely heavy rain for Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra Nagar Haveli on July 3. The IMD reported that two cyclonic circulations, one over northern Gujarat and another over southern Gujarat, are now affecting the state and are causing this stretch of rainy weather.

 Delhi, rest of North India to see downpour today

There is no end woes for the national capital. As it continues to struggle with waterlogging in numerous locations following scattered shower on July 2, there are chances of moderate to heavy rain on July 3. The Met office forecast also included gusty winds, lightning, thunderstorms.

Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh are all under an orange warning on July 3.

Over the last week, the North Eastern states saw above-average rainfall, causing significant flooding, landslides, and waterlogging in certain locations. While hundreds of homes have been destroyed by floods in Assam and Manipur, rivers in Arunachal Pradesh are now gushing over dangerous levels.

Moderate rain likely in Mumbai today

In its most recent forecast for Mumbai, the IMD said that Wednesday would be partly overcast with intermittent spells of moderate rain in the city and its suburbs.

It is anticipated that the city would have a high temperature of 32 degrees Celsius and a low of 25 degrees.

Rains in Madhya Pradesh

On Wednesday, the meteorological office has issued an alert for heavy rains in about 22 districts of Madhya Pradesh. The state's current temperatures have decreased, according to the Met Office. Madhya Pradesh is now experiencing temperatures between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius, and conditions are expected to remain this way for the foreseeable future.

“A trough line is passing from South Gujarat to Central Madhya Pradesh due to which a lot of moisture is arriving. Another trough line is passing from Punjab to Mizoram which is going through Uttar Pradesh. Due to all these systems, good rain is expected in the state but no heavy rainfall alert has been issued today,” said VS Yadav, meteorologist at IMD Bhopal.

According to a report released by IMD on July 2, the southwest monsoon of this year has reached every portion of the nation six days ahead of schedule. On June 30, the southwest monsoon arrived two to six days ahead of schedule in Kerala and the North East. It moved along as predicted up to Maharashtra, after which it slowed down and delayed the start of the rainy season in West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. The impacts of a severe heat wave in northwest India have been made worse by this slowness.
