The incident reportedly occurred on Friday and was caught on a CCTV camera in the girls’ hostel corridor.

A day after a video showing a girl emerging from a suitcase on the campus of OP Jindal Global University in Haryana went viral, the university, on Sunday, clarified that the incident was a prank carried out by students within the girls’ hostel. It, however, stated that disciplinary action is being taken.

The video clip, which triggered widespread social media chatter, shows two female security personnel opening a large suitcase from which a girl then crawls out. The incident reportedly occurred on Friday and was caught on a CCTV camera in the girls’ hostel corridor.

Responding to the viral footage, the university stated that the prank was executed by a group of girls who were “carting their friend around in a suitcase” within the hostel premises.

“They moved to a public area inside the hostel’s common corridor, which is under CCTV surveillance. That is when the security staff intervened upon noticing suspicious activity,” said Anjoo Mohun, Chief Communications Officer at the university.

Despite clarifying that the incident took place within the girls’ hostel, the university has showcaused all students involved and asked them to appear before a disciplinary committee.

“We take the safety and security of our students very seriously. Immediate and effective action has been taken,” said a university spokesperson.

Earlier, there were claims that a male student attempted to sneak a girl - allegedly his girlfriend - into the boys' hostel in a suitcase.
