The Gen Z protesters in Nepal, who are spearheading the movement currently going on in the neighbouring country, have demanded certain things, including the rewriting of the Constitution and the restructuring of the fundamental institutions.
What are the Gen Z protesters demanding?
- The protesters have said that the current House of Representatives has lost the trust of the public and that it should thus be dissolved immediately.
- The protesters have demanded that the Constitution be amended or rewritten completely and that participation from the youth, citizens and experts should be taken into consideration for that.
- Additionally, the demands say that new elections be held after the interim period and assurance be given that they will be fair, independent and will be based on direct participation from the government.
- The protesters have also demanded the establishment of a directly elected executive leadership.
- Another demand by the Gen Z protesters includes a probe into the assets that have been looted over the last three decades and the illegal properties to be nationalised.
- They have also demanded that structural reform takes place and the restructuring of five fundamental institutions - education, justice, communications, health and security - be undertaken.The protests by the Gen Z in Nepal have forced Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the majority of his cabinet to resign. The protests in Nepal turned violent over the past two days after protesters set several structures on fire - including the residence of Oli.
