On Friday, PM Modi attended the event organised in honour of the renowned Sufi poet and scholar Amir Khusrau, where he extended advance wishes for Ramzan and lauded Sufi traditions for their message of inclusivity and harmony.
Modi attended the 25th edition of the festival, which celebrates the legacy of Sufi poet Amir Khusrau, and delivered a speech emphasizing India’s rich cultural inclusivity. In his speech, Modi highlighted how Sufi saints embraced diverse traditions, quoting Amir Khusrau and Mirza Ghalib to stress the timeless message of unity. He referenced Ghalib’s words: "When we wake up, we see the distance between Kashi and Kashan is only half a step," illustrating the deep connections between cultures.
"I was present and would say it it was the best speech I have heard the PM deliver. He quoted widely from Khusarau & Ghalib and spoke about the merits of Sufism and amity. This contents of speech need to be noted by hate mongers, and hope it is a damper on divisiveness," said Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) on X.
The Prime Minister’s participation was widely appreciated by international envoys. Peruvian Ambassador Javier Paulinich praised India’s commitment to preserving cultural harmony, while Ecuador’s Ambassador Fernando Bucheli noted that music serves as a bridge between communities. El Salvador’s Ambassador Guillermo Rubio Funes called Modi’s presence a significant boost for Sufi musicians, and Guatemala’s Ambassador Omar Lisandro Castaneda Solares described his interaction with Modi as “unforgettable.”
The Jahan-e-Khusrau festival, now marking its silver jubilee, continues to serve as a celebration of Sufi traditions and cultural unity, with Modi’s participation reinforcing the festival’s message of peace and inclusivity.
