The National Mineral Development Corp said on February 28 that the company is investigating the incident at its Kirandul, Chattisgarh complex, which claimed the lives of four workers.
Four workers died on February 27 due to the collapse of a rock formation at a construction site of NMDC in Kirandul complex, according to the company.
“An unpredictable collapse of strata from a 15 meter high and 70 meter length rock formation landed on the workers on the construction site at Screening Plant III,” the mining major said in an exchange filing.
The company added that two other contractual workers sustained injuries in the incident and are being treated at NMDC Hospital.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the mining area where 14 workers were constructing a retaining wall as a part of the screening plant extension project.
In 2019, the country’s largest iron ore producer allocated Rs 1,500 crore for a third screening plant with a capacity of 12 MTPA at its Kirandul complex in a bid to ramp up output.
