Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit flood-ravaged regions in North India to assess the situation on the ground, official sources said to news agency PTI on Friday.

Relentless rains have battered states such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab, causing widespread damage to infrastructure, homes, and livelihoods, while also leading to several casualties.

Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand have been left battered by incessant rains that triggered flash floods and landslides, causing massive destruction across the region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit these four states to take stock of relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Officials said more than 500 people have lost their lives in what is being described as one of the worst weather calamities in decades. In the past two days alone, fresh landslides, flash floods, and collapsing structures have claimed dozens more lives. Highways remain blocked, rivers are overflowing, and crops have been wiped out in large areas due to continuous downpours.

The Prime Minister’s visit comes as state governments press for greater Central assistance to cope with the scale of destruction and expedite relief and rehabilitation measures.
