Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, on Monday, took on the Central government over US President Donald Trump's repeated claims of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Speaking in the Upper House, Kharge raised concerns over the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, pointing out that the perpetrators had yet to be apprehended or neutralised. He urged the government to provide clarity on the developments.
“I have given a notice under Rule 267 regarding the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Till now, the terrorists involved have not been caught or neutralised. All political parties have extended their full support to the government. It must inform us about the current status,” Kharge said in the Rajya Sabha, as reported by ANI.
He further demanded a response from the government on Trump’s statements: “In addition, the government must clarify its position on US President Donald Trump's remarks. He has claimed, not once but 24 times, that he was responsible for brokering the ceasefire. This is an embarrassment for the country.”
In response, Union Minister JP Nadda said the government is open to a discussion on Operation Sindoor. However, continuous disruptions led to repeated adjournments of the House.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament began on a tense note as the Opposition’s INDIA bloc took on the Modi government over the Pahalgam terror attack and Trump’s repeated claims of brokering peace with Pakistan.
