The Khan household came together on Monday evening to celebrate the 61st wedding anniversary of Salim Khan and his first wife Salma Khan. Salim and Salma married on November 18, 1964, and continue to celebrate the milestone every year with their extended family.
Also present at the gathering was Salim Khan's second wife Helen along with eldest son Salman Khan, who arrived sporting a black T-shirt and the signature moustache he has been wearing for his role in Apoorva Lakhia’s upcoming period military drama Battle of Galwan. The actor has recently returned from his Da-Bangg Tour in Qatar.
Salim Khan married Helen in the early 1980s. Despite the turbulence, the family eventually found their own rhythm. In an interview, Salim had described his marriage to Helen as an “emotional accident”. He clarified that it wasn’t planned but something that “could happen to anyone.” He recalled telling Salma about it himself, before the news could reach her through gossip columns.

The period of conflict, he said, was short-lived, after which the family chose acceptance and unity. Salim also revealed that he sat down with his young children to explain the situation. “I don’t expect you to love her as much as you love your mother, but I want you to give her the same respect,” he told them at the time.
Helen, too, had spoken about those years in a Filmfare interview, admitting she felt guilt initially because Salim was married. But she also emphasised her deep respect for him, recalling how he supported her during her career struggles “without trying to exploit” her. “The fact that Salim was a married man did disturb me and I did feel guilty in the beginning. Something about Salim set him apart from the rest of the industry men. I respected him tremendously as he tried to help me out without trying to exploit me,” she had said.
