Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 20 held telephonic conversations with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky soon after congratulating Russian president Vladimir Putin on his re-election.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Modi said he and Zelensky discussed ways to further strengthen India-Ukraine partnership in various spheres.
PM Modi reiterated India’s people-centric approach and asked for dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. He also said that India supports an early and peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and will do everything possible within its means reach a consensus.
President Zelenskyy said he appreciates India’s continued humanitarian assistance for the people of Ukraine and the two leaders agreed to remain in touch.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi congratulated Putin for his election victory and conveyed his best wishes for “peace, progress and prosperity of the friendly people of Russia”.
“The two leaders agreed to make concerted efforts towards further strengthening the special & privileged strategic partnership between the two countries in the years to come,” the government said in a statement.
