The Indian Navy paid a heartfelt tribute to Rajendra Chola I on the occasion of his birth anniversary and hailed his exemplary vision.

"The Indian Navy proudly pays tribute to Rajendra Chola I — the legendary emperor whose visionary maritime expedition to Southeast Asia a thousand years ago marked a golden chapter in #India’s maritime history. The commencement of the majestic Gangaikonda Cholapuram and the release of a commemorative coin in his honour serve as a reminder of our rich maritime heritage," the Indian Navy wrote on microblogging site X.

"The Chola Navy exemplified unparalleled strategic brilliance, maritime prowess, and cultural influence, leaving an indelible mark on Indian history. Today, the Indian Navy carries forward that legacy — safeguarding national interests, fostering regional cooperation, MAHASAGAR SAGAR and ensuring peace and stability across the Indian Ocean Region," the X post further read.

"We salute the timeless spirit of India’s seafarers — from the maritime pioneers of Chola era to the modern day mariners of today," it added.

Meanwhile, to pay his tributes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited and offered prayers at Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple on Sunday. He wore a traditional attire and was welcomed by the local pandits in the temple premises. Pictures from his temple visit have gone viral on social media.

He was wearing a white veshti (dhoti), a white shirt, and an angavasthram worn around the neck while attending the Aadi Thiruvathirai Festival. Earlier on Sunday, the Prime Minister held a roadshow in the Tiruchirappalli district.

His convoy was welcomed warmly by the people who had gathered to witness his arrival. He is currently on a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu. Yesterday, he had inaugurated development projects worth over Rs 4,800 crore in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi.

He also spoke about India-UK FTA, Operation Sindoor and Kargil Diwas while addressing the public in Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
