As India gears up to celebrate its 78th Independence Day, the Delhi Traffic Police has released a traffic advisory to ensure smooth and safe traffic flow in the capital. The advisory includes road closures and restrictions to accommodate the movement of invitees, dignitaries, and security personnel during the celebrations.

Delhi Metro's Schedule for August 15

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced schedule changes in observance of Independence Day. Metro services will begin at 4 AM from all terminal stations across all lines. From 4 AM to 6 AM, trains will operate every 15 minutes, with regular service resuming thereafter.

Additionally, individuals with an invitation card from the ministry of defense for Independence Day celebrations will be allowed entry and travel on the Delhi Metro by presenting a valid photo ID at the station. These invitation cards will be valid for entry, exit, and return journeys exclusively at the designated stations.

DMRC principal executive director Anuj Dayal has announced special arrangements for Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, and Chandni Chowk metro stations on Independence Day. These stations, located closest to the event venue, will have enhanced measures in place to manage the increased passenger flow.

Road Closures and Restrictions

Several roads in Delhi will be closed between 4 AM and 10 AM on Independence Day, with access restricted to only labeled vehicles, according to the traffic advisory. The police have urged the public and commuters to adhere to the advisory due to these traffic restrictions.

On Independence Day, from 4:00 AM to 10:00 AM, it is advisable to avoid the following roads in Delhi due to closures and traffic restrictions:

  • C-Hexagon India Gate
  • Copernicus Marg
  • Mandi House
  • Sikandra Road
  • Tilak Marg
  • Mathura Road
  • Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmiri Gate

The advisory also mentioned that informative signages will be displayed at all major traffic junctions to guide vehicles heading towards the Red Fort during the Independence Day celebrations.

Advisory for bus and road closures

Local city buses, including DTC buses, will be restricted from traveling on Ring Road between ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Ring Road - NH-24(NH-9)/NH 'T' point (Nizamuddin Khatta) from 12:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Additionally, Lothian Road from Chhatta Rail Chowk to Kashmiri Gate (Boulevard Road) and Netaji Subhash Marg from Chhatta Rail Chowk will also be closed to traffic throughout the day.

The Delhi Traffic Police will install informative signs at major junctions to assist drivers navigating through the city on Independence Day. They recommend using alternative routes to avoid congestion in restricted areas. With these changes, it's important to plan your journey in advance. Whether attending the celebrations or traveling for other purposes, allow extra time for your trip and consider using public transportation. Stay informed, follow traffic guidelines, and have a safe and patriotic Independence Day in the capital.
