The government has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar with SIM cards before February 2018, following which the SIM cards not linked with Aadhaar will be deactivated.
Government sources told IANS that this will ensure that criminals, fraudsters and terrorists will not be able to use the issued SIM cards.

Here are different ways to link your mobile number to Aadhaar:
> Fill the form
Step 1. Fill the Aadhaar Update/Correction form available at the nearest Aadhaar centre. You can also download the form from UIDAI website.
Step 2. Fill the required details.
Step 3. Select the option — update mobile number.
Step 4. Submit the form with a photocopy of your Aadhaar card and an identity proof like PAN card, Voter ID or Passport.
Step 5. Your biometrics will be verified at the Aadhaar enrollment centre.
Step 6. You will be given an acknowledgement slip.
The information will get updated within 10 working days.
> Update the mobile number online:
This process can be used if a user wants to update a different mobile number. In this case, a one-time-password (OTP) will be sent to customer's existing mobile number that is linked to Aadhaar.
Step 1. Visit the official UIDAI website, uidai.gov.in.
Step 2. Click on 'Update Aadhaar Details (Online)' option. It will redirect users to a self-service portal.
Step 3. Enter the required details and request for an OTP.
Step 4. Enter the OTP.
Step 5: Under ‘Select field(s) to update’, select ‘Mobile Number’ and enter your new mobile number.
