External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Monday met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro for the first time since India and China announced significant de-escalation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The two leaders reviewed the progress made in the disengagement of troops in the eastern Ladakh region, specifically in the Demchok and Depsang sectors.
"We noted the progress in the recent disengagement in the India-China border areas and exchanged views on the next steps in our bilateral ties," Jaishankar posted on X after the meeting.

He added that he also discussed global developments with the Chinese foreign minister.
Separately, the Chinese foreign ministry said that the two ministers exchanged views on several key issues, including the ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.
Both sides agreed to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and China next year with a series of events.

Wang Yi expressed hope for increased cooperation, particularly through the resumption of direct flights, journalist exchanges, and easing visa processes to foster deeper engagement between the two nations.
The meeting marked the first high-level discussion between India and China following the completion of the disengagement process in the two friction points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Himalayan region.
Last month, both countries reached an agreement to ease tensions and end the military standoff in these disputed areas.
The disengagement exercise in Demchok and Depsang was completed successfully, with both sides also resuming patrolling activities after a hiatus of nearly four-and-a-half years.
