In a boost to digitalisation of India's aviation sector, the Digi Yatra facility, which uses the facial recognition technology for seamless movement of passengers, has been extended to nine more airports, the government has said.
Visakhapatnam, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Indore, Raipur, Bagdogra, Patna, Goa (Dabolim) and Coimbatore, too, now offer contactless boarding pass system.
Digi Yatra, which was introduced in December 2022 at Bengaluru, Varanasi and Delhi airports, has gained rapid popularity among travellers. Using facial technology, Digi Yatra allows travellers to pass through various checkpoints at the airport through paperless and contactless processing, saving time for passengers.

More than 3 crore people have used Digi Yatra since its inception, and more than 53 lakh individuals have downloaded the dedicated app, the government has said. The facility is also available at Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune and Kolkata airports.
The government's initiative is expected to further streamline airport operations and provide a seamless journey for travellers. As more airports adopt Digi Yatra, it is poised to become the standard for boarding passes in India's aviation industry.
