The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday lashed out at Congress MP and the party's communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh, accusing it of "peddling yet another falsehood" following the telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump.
"Jairam Ramesh is a congenital liar — much like Rahul Gandhi. He is now peddling yet another falsehood, claiming that Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s statement doesn’t match the U.S. readout — while dramatically waving his phone around. But here is the catch: the readout he is citing is from January 2025! And there is no official U.S. release yet on the latest call," BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya said in a post on X.

Malviya was referring to Jairam's reaction to the 35-minute-odd phone call between PM Modi and President Trump wherein the Indian PM categorically told the US President that India halted its military offensive against Pakistan last month at Pakistan's request and that there was no US mediation involved in the process.
Reacting to the Foreign Secretary's statement detailing the phone call between the two leaders, Jairam claimed that the facts stated by the officer did not match with the readout released by the White House.
"For 37 days, the PM did not say anything. Today, we are told that he had a 35-minute call with President Trump. There is a readout of what the PM is supposed to have said to President Trump. President Trump has also put out a statement from the White House. There is a difference between the two statements," Jairam Ramesh told news agency ANI.
Malviya claimed that the readout Jairam was referring to was from January 2025 and that there is no official U.S. release yet on the latest call between Modi and Trump yet. A look at the White House website and social media handles showed no release of any such readout.
"The Congress and its troll army simply can’t digest the fact that Prime Minister Modi told President Trump in clear terms — India neither needs nor accepts any third-party mediation.
The de-escalation with Pakistan happened through DGMOs, and at Pakistan’s own request. Congress must stop maligning India’s firm and principled foreign policy just to feed its petty narratives," Malviya said, sharing screenshots from Jairam's remarks to ANI and the White House readout dated January 27, 2025.
Earlier today, Jairam Ramesh claimed that Indian foreign policy and diplomacy had suffered a "triple blow", referring to President Trump's invitation for a lunch meeting with Pakistan Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.
"Understand the 'triple jhatka' that the Indian foreign policy and diplomacy has received. Today Field Marshal Asim Munir whose provocative, incendiary, inflammatory comments are directly linked to the Pahalgam terror attacks. He is today invited for a one-on-one special lunch with President Trump. This is a setback for Indian diplomacy. We are quiet about it, we have not objected to it," he said.
"May 10 onwards, President Trump has claimed 14 times that he mediated a ceasefire, he used trade as an instrument, he put Pakistan and India together...PM was silent. This was not countered. Today, we are told that he had a 35-minute phone call with President Trump and he said many of the things that Foreign Secretary has given a readout...Say the same thing in Parliament. Call a special session of Parliament...Call an all-party meeting tomorrow...and say the same things that you have supposedly told President Trump on the phone," Jairam said.
