Tej Pratap Yadav, the estranged elder son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and now leader of his own Janshakti Janta Dal, has claimed he faces a serious threat to his life. His statement, made in the middle of the high-stakes Bihar assembly polls, has added fresh drama to the Yadav family’s widening rift and political realignment.
“My enemies may get me killed”
Speaking to reporters in Patna, Tej Pratap said his security has been increased after intelligence inputs flagged potential threats. “I am under threat. My enemies may even get me killed. Everyone seems like an enemy,” he told PTI. The Home Ministry has upgraded his security to Y-plus, putting the CRPF in charge of his protection.

While he didn’t name who those 'enemies; are, the timing of his claim, just as he campaigns from the Mahua constituency under his new political outfit, has triggered speculation across Bihar’s political circles.
Birthday wishes, family tension
In an unexpected soft note, Tej Pratap also extended birthday wishes to his younger brother and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, saying, “My blessings are always with him. He should continue to grow further.”
The gesture comes despite the brothers’ strained ties since Tej Pratap’s ouster from the RJD earlier this year.
Security upgrade and meetings with BJP MP
The security escalation comes amid Tej Pratap’s back-to-back meetings with BJP MP Ravi Kishan, raising eyebrows among both allies and rivals.
The two reportedly met twice in two days, with videos showing Ravi Kishan whispering into Tej Pratap’s ear before both chanted “Har Har Mahadev.” Tej Pratap later said they would “blow the Mahadev conch shell together,” a remark being read politically in Bihar’s charged atmosphere.
Fallout with RJD
Tej Pratap was expelled from the RJD on May 25 for six years after he admitted in a social media post to being in a relationship, a post he later deleted, claiming his account had been hacked.
Lalu Prasad Yadav publicly distanced himself from his elder son, calling his conduct 'irresponsible.' Soon after, Tej Pratap accused party insiders of conspiring to separate him from Tejashwi, cryptically referring to them as 'Jaichand,' a metaphor for traitors.
