Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a state visit to Bhutan on November 11-12 to further strengthen the special ties of friendship and cooperation between the two nations, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement on Saturday.
According to the MEA, during the visit, Prime Minister Modi will have an audience with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and together they will inaugurate the 1,020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project, a major infrastructure venture jointly developed by the Government of India and the Royal Government of Bhutan.
The Prime Minister will also attend celebrations marking the 70th birth anniversary of King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King of Bhutan, and hold discussions with Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, the ministry said.
The visit coincides with the exposition of the Sacred Piprahwa Relics of Lord Buddha from India, with the Prime Minister set to offer prayers at Tashichhodzong in Thimphu and participate in the Global Peace Prayer Festival organised by the Royal Government of Bhutan.
“India and Bhutan share a unique and exemplary partnership marked by deep mutual trust, goodwill, and respect,” the MEA said, adding that the Prime Minister’s visit “will provide an opportunity for both sides to discuss ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.”
