Champai Soren resigned as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand 152 days after taking oath of the post, paving way for the return of JMM executive president Hemant Soren.
Meanwhile, Hemant Soren met the Governor in the evening to stake claim to form the government.
In his first reaction after tendering his resignation to Governor, Champai said, "A few days ago, I was made the Chief Minister and I got the responsibility of the state. After Hemant Soren was back, our alliance took this decision and we chose Hemant Soren as our leader. Now, I have resigned from the post of Chief Minister."
Commenting on the JMM chief was kept in custody for 5 months and the allegations against him, JMM leader Mahua Majhi said: "The events that unfolded in Jharkhand... leaders who are not in BJP were harassed by the central investigating agencies; Hemant Soren was arrested, following which he was forced to resign as CM. Now that the Jharkhand HC granted him bail stating that the ED doesn't have any evidence against him, the legislative party meeting unanimously took a decision. Even Champai Soren said that he agrees with the decision taken in the meeting."
