The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government of Andhra Pradesh of presiding over a massive scam in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), alleging that more than Rs 100 crore was stolen from the temple’s donation boxes during YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure as Chief Minister.
According to The Hindu, BJP leader and TTD Trust Board member G Bhanuprakash Reddy claimed that temple staffer C Ravikumar siphoned off the funds with the backing of powerful political figures, addressing the media in Tirupati. He released CCTV footage purportedly showing the irregularities.
Reddy directly named former TTD Chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, accusing him of running the “Parakamani scam” under the instructions of then CM Jagan Mohan Reddy. “The erstwhile board erred in making a resolution to accept tainted property from the accused, thereby providing him a safe exit from legal consequences,” he alleged, as per the report.
The BJP further pointed to the decision of the previous TTD board, under YSRCP control, to settle the matter in a Lok Adalat. Legal counsel K Ajay Kumar repotedly noted that while one charge of theft under IPC Section 379 is compoundable, the more serious Section 381 — theft by a servant from his master — cannot be compounded. The hasty “compromise,” he has been quoted, raised questions about political protection for the accused.
BJP spokesperson J Madhusudhan added that the case, settled within six months of the charge-sheet, exposed the YSRCP government’s disregard for democratic and constitutional norms. “Justice never moves this fast for ordinary people. It shows the extraordinary influence at play,” he has been quoted.
TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh also weighed in through a strongly worded statement on social media, accusing Jagan’s administration of turning Andhra Pradesh into “a haven for thieves and looters.” In a post on X, he alleged that the stolen hundi money was diverted into real estate investments, with shares of the loot reaching “from Bhumana in Tirupati to Tadepalli Palace,” the YSRCP leadership’s headquarters. Lokesh also accused the YSRCP government of other irregularities at Tirumala, including adulteration of sacred laddus, corruption in Anna Prasadam, and sale of darshan tickets.

“Jagan and Bhumana looted even the offerings made by devotees worldwide to Lord Venkateswara. Despite repeated warnings, they meddled with the sanctity of the seven hills,” Lokesh said.
The present TTD Chairman BR Naidu has promised a thorough review of all controversial decisions taken by the previous board. With political tempers running high, the BJP has indicated it will press for a full probe into what it terms the “Parakamani scam,” while the revelations have reignited debate over transparency and accountability in the management of the temple’s vast wealth.
