Veteran actor Dharmendra's story is one of the few Indian movie stars whose off-screen lives have been as dramatic as their on-screen ones. He was already married to Prakash Kaur when he came to Mumbai from Punjab with dreams and aspirations in his eyes.
However, the veteran actor fell in love with Hema Malini on the set of Tum Haseen Main Jawaan in 1970. Despite controversy and a previous marriage, Dharmendra tied the knot with Hema Malini in 1980.
Dharmendra's second marriage caused a rift in the family. Dharmendra stayed with Prakash Kaur and their four children, Sunny, Bobby, Ajeeta, and Vijeta, while Hema Malini continued to live apart in her own bungalow. Esha Deol, their daughter, subsequently disclosed that it wasn't until she turned thirty that she first met Prakash Kaur.
Yet, through the years, both families have maintained a sense of distance marked by mutual respect and acceptance.
During a recent interview with ABP Live, Dharmendra’s younger son, Bobby Deol, talked about Dharmendra’s living situation. Bobby revealed that the veteran actor has been living at their family farm in Khandala with his first wife, Prakash Kaur.
Bobby Deol shared, “My mum is also there. They’re both at the farm in Khandala right now. Papa and Mummy are together; he just gets a little dramatic. They love being at the farmhouse. They’re also old now, and being at the farmhouse is relaxing for them. The weather is nice, the food is nice. Papa has made a paradise out there."
He added that his father had always been outspoken and unafraid to express his emotions in public.
“Papa is very emotional. He’s very expressive. Sometimes he goes overboard, and I ask him why he wrote what he wrote or said what he said, and he tells me that he was just following his heart," Bobby added.
Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur tied the knot in 1954.
