Gold rose over 1% on Tuesday to a more than one-month high, bolstered by a softer dollar and lower Treasury yields, with investors betting that recent U.S. economic readings make the case for a pause in the Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes. Spot gold was up 1.3% at $1,979.19 per ounce by 12:41 p.m. ET (1641 GMT), after hitting the highest since late May. U.S. gold futures advanced 1.5% to $1,985.20. The dollar index wobbled near more than a one-year low, making bullion more affordable to buyers holding other currencies. Benchmark Treasury yields ticked lower for the second straight day.

One person was killed, and10 others were injured in a blast on Tuesday evening at an eating joint adjacent to the fire brigade office on the Mall Road in the heart of Shimla, officials said.The blast occurred at the Himachali Rasoi restaurant, known for serving Himachali cuisines, located in Middle Bazaar just below the Mall Road and four to six shops have been damaged, they said. The intensity of the blast was such that windowpanes of several shops and houses in the vicinity were broken, and the sound was heard miles away. As the spot is just a few metres away from the fire station and the police control room, a fire fight operation was launched swiftly.
Bangladesh is set to launch three major infrastructure projects, including a power plant, under India's financial assistance in September, a senior official said on Tuesday after the Indian High Commissioner here called on the country's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and LG V K Saxena are expected to meet on Wednesday to decide on the appointment of the chairperson of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission, officials said. The Supreme Court had on Monday asked the two constitutional functionaries to rise above "political bickering" and discuss who could head the national capital's power regulator. The court will take up the issue for consideration again on Thursday. The meeting between the LG and the chief minister could not take place so far as Kejriwal was in Bengaluru to attend a meeting of non-BJP opposition parties.
