Tata Motors' new Harrier and Safari achieved the top rating for the safety of both adult and child occupants, in the latest evaluation conducted by the Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP) as part of the Safer Cars for India campaign.
Global NCAP, the programme that aims to promote the sale of safer cars in developing markets, said both models of Tata Motors demonstrated complete protection for child occupants, are equipped with ISOFIX anchorages and a passenger airbag disabling switch, enhancing their versatility for transporting children. Additionally, both the Safari and Harrier meet the standard requirements of UN127 and GTR9 for pedestrian protection, Global NCAP added.
Global NCAP said, in the dynamic tests, said its crash test procedures evaluate frontal and side impact safety measures for all vehicle models, alongside Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Vehicles achieving the highest star ratings are also subjected to assessments for pedestrian protection and side impact pole protection, it further stated.
Both models also adhere to Global NCAP's ESC criteria and include seatbelt reminders for all seating positions. Furthermore, they offer optional Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technologies.
Global NCAP, a project of the Towards Zero Foundation, a UK-registered charity, unveiled the ratings on the day when Tata Motors introduced their refreshed Safari and Harrier models. Tata Motors has disclosed that the new Safari is available for an introductory price of Rs 16.19 Lakh, while the new Harrier is being offered at an introductory price of Rs 15.49 Lakh.
Secretary General of Global NCAP, Alejandro Furas, commending Tata Motors for the highest safety scores said the ratings reaffirm the automobile manufacturer's dedicated efforts in creating safer vehicles.
Alejandro Furas, Global NCAP Secretary General said, "Global NCAP congratulates Tata on the five star twin model rating for the Safari and Harrier. This very strong result, the top adult and child safety score in our testing to date, confirms the manufacturer’s strong commitment to developing safer vehicles which we warmly welcome and applaud.”
David Ward, President of the Towards Zero Foundation said, “It is very satisfying to see Tata’s continuing commitment to high levels of safety performance. The top scoring result for the Safari and Harrier demonstrates an encouraging safety trend that we are confident will continue across the Indian automotive industry as Global NCAP’s testing transitions to the work of Bharat NCAP.”
