India has achieved a historic milestone in wildlife conservation and tourism. Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park has officially launched the country’s first-ever cheetah safari, which opened to visitors on October 1, 2025. This landmark initiative allows tourists to witness the world’s fastest land animal up close — a rare experience that blends adventure, education, and conservation.

A Historic Step for Wildlife Tourism

Located in the Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh, Kuno National Park was chosen for the Cheetah Reintroduction Project due to its vast grasslands, rich prey base, and ideal climate. In 2022, the park welcomed cheetahs from Namibia and South Africa as part of an international relocation programme. Today, Kuno proudly shelters 16 cheetahs, thriving under expert supervision and conservation management.

What Makes the Cheetah Safari Special

The Kuno Cheetah Safari offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for nature lovers, wildlife photographers, and adventure seekers to observe cheetahs in their natural environment. Safaris are held in the early morning and late afternoon, the best times to spot these agile cats as they roam, hunt, or patrol their territory.

Each group is guided by trained naturalists who share insights into cheetah behaviour, hunting techniques, and their remarkable return to India after decades of extinction. To ensure sustainable tourism, strict routes and limited vehicle entries have been enforced, minimising disturbance to the wildlife.

Ticket Prices and Entry Fees

Here’s the official ticket structure for the Kuno Cheetah Safari:

  • Gypsy Safari (up to 6 people): Rs 4,500 per vehicle.
  • Private Vehicle Entry: Rs 1,200 per vehicle.
Note: Prices may vary during weekends or peak seasons. Visitors should confirm the latest rates on the official Kuno National Park Safari Booking Portal before planning their trip.

How to Book Your Safari

Bookings can be made online via:

  • The Madhya Pradesh Forest Department’s official website.
  • Authorised wildlife tour operators or travel companies affiliated with the park.

Entry points include Tiktoli, Ahera, and Pipalbawdi gates, each with specific regulations on vehicle type, timing, and capacity.

Best Time to Visit Kuno National Park

The ideal season to explore Kuno is from October to March, when temperatures are mild, visibility is high, and wildlife activity peaks — increasing the chances of cheetah sightings. Avoid the hot months between April and June, when animals are less active due to high temperatures.
