Rail passengers have some good news coming their way as the prices of Rail Neer bottled water are being slashed. Following the recent cut in GST rates, Indian Railways (IR) has decided to bring down the maximum retail price (MRP) of its signature packaged drinking water brand.
In an official communication dated September 20, 2025, to all General Managers and the CMD of IRCTC, the Railway Board announced: “Maximum retail price of packaged drinking water bottle ‘Rail Neer’ shall be revised from Rs 15 to Rs 14 per bottle of one litre and Rs 10 to Rs 9 per bottle of 500 ml capacity.”
The Board further clarified that the change will not be limited to Rail Neer alone. “Maximum retail price of IRCTC/Railways shortlisted packaged drinking water bottles of other brands sold in railway premises/trains shall also be revised from Rs 15 to Rs 14 per bottle of one litre and Rs 10 to Rs 9 per bottle of 500 ml capacity,” the letter added.
This price reduction, effective September 22, 2025, has been implemented to ensure that passengers directly benefit from the GST reduction. The decision reflects Indian Railways’ effort to pass on tax relief to consumers without delay.
Rail Neer, launched by IRCTC in 2003, is not just any bottled water brand—it is a flagship product created to enhance passenger amenities and guarantee safe drinking water supply onboard. The very first Rail Neer plant was established at West Delhi’s Nangloi with the purpose of supplying Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains starting from New Delhi and Nizamuddin.
The revised price now stands at Rs 14 for a one-litre bottle, down from Rs 15, and Rs 9 for a half-litre bottle, reduced from Rs 10. With this cut, passengers travelling across India’s vast railway network will find a small but welcome reduction in onboard expenses.
