The US markets extended gains for the second day in a row on July 23 ahead of tech stocks’ earnings. At 9:15pm IST, the S&P 500 gained 0.32 percent to 5,582 and the Nasdaq Composite was up over half a percent at 18,108. The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded 0.2 percent higher at 40,493.
Major tech names such as Google’s Alphabet and Tesla will release their earnings reports for the quarter later today. While Alphabet gained 0.7 percent, Tesla traded 0.8 percent lower at $249.48.
The GIFT Nifty traded flat-to-positive at 24,506.5 after the Indian markets’ negative close earlier during the day.
Indian indices edged marginally lower on Tuesday after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the Union Budget for 2024. Nifty fell 0.12 percent to 24,479.05 and the Sensex ended flat-to-negative at 80,429.04, dragged mainly by banks, capital goods, metals, oil & gas, and realty sectors.
DIIs net purchased Rs 1,418.82 crores in Indian equities while the FIIs/FPIs broke their buying streak and net sold Rs 2,975.31 crores.
The European markets traded mixed as investors looked at earnings reports of major companies. The FTSE fell 0.38 percent to 8,167.37 and the CAC was down 0.37 percent at 7,593.57. However, the DAX extended previous gains, up 0.77 percent at 18,547.97.
Earlier during the day, the Asian indices ended lower. Nikkei traded flat-to-negative at 39,594.39 and the Hang Seng tumbled nearly a percent to 17,469.36.
Crude tumbled for the second day in a row, down 2.32 percent at $76.58. Brent also fell 2 percent to $80.73.
