Hind Zinc's Rajasthan units in 'emergency preparedness' but no disruption despite tense border

The Vedanta group company operates five mines and three smelters in the state of Rajasthan which shares a long and sensitive border with Pakistan, making it a region of strategic concern during periods of heightened military alertness.

    One of the world’s leading zinc producers, Hindustan Zinc has activated its emergency preparedness protocol across all units in Rajasthan, as tensions rise along India’s western border, Chief Executive Officer Arun Misra told Moneycontrol in an emailed statement on May 9. The company does not anticipate any disruption to its mining or refining operations in the state.

    "Hindustan Zinc has activated its emergency preparedness protocol across all units, with a focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of our workforce and local communities. At present, we do not anticipate any disruption to our mining or refining operations in Rajasthan. We are closely coordinating with the state administration and relevant authorities to remain aligned with broader safety efforts in the region," Misra told Moneycontrol.

    India’s leading corporate houses as well as multi-national companies (MNCs) have issued safety advisories for their employees in light of the latest escalation in conflict with Pakistan. Manufacturers who have plants in Punjab, Rajasthan and parts of Gujarat have issued advisories regarding dos and don’ts, said industry participants.

    The Vedanta group company operates five mines and three smelters in the state of Rajasthan which shares a long and sensitive border with Pakistan, making it a region of strategic concern during periods of heightened military alertness.

    "Our emergency preparedness protocol is designed to ensure business continuity, workforce management solutions, and local community readiness strategies. We have also placed our resources and infrastructure at the disposal of the administration should they be of assistance," Misra added.

    On the night of May 8, India repulsed Pakistani munitions and drone aimed along the western border areas in Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat, as well as near military bases in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur and other locations.

    A day earlier, India conducted precision strikes on terror sites inside Pakistan under ‘Operation Sindoor’, hitting nine terror bases, in retaliation to the death of 26 civilians in a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22.
