FirstCry parent Brainbees narrows its losses in Q2 to Rs 63 crore from Rs 119 crore

    Brainbees Solutions, the company that runs FirstCry, posted a revenue of Rs 1,904.9 crore in Q2FY25, a 26.4 percent increase from Rs 1,506.88 crore generated in the same quarter last year.

    The company reported a loss of Rs 62.85 crore , down from Rs 119.4 crore during the same period a year ago.

    The Pune-based mother and baby products company had seen its losses narrowing 31 percent from Rs 110 crore in Q1FY24 to Rs 76 crore in Q1FY25.

    FirstCry had made a strong debut on August 13, with its shares listing at a 40 percent premium. The stock had opened at Rs 651 on the NSE, higher than the IPO price of Rs 465.

    The company pointed out that during the half year ended September 30, 2024, fire at warehouses of the Group in Hooghly, West Bengal and Bhiwandl, Maharashtra destroyed the entire inventory and property, plant and equipment therein.

    "The Group his filed claims under the insurance policies; which adequately cover the losses incurred. Subsequent to half year ended September 30, 2024, partial claim has been settled by the insurance company. Managerment is confident of the balance claim been settled in due course and believes that no further material adjustment is necessary to these results," the company said.

    It also added, "On April 16, 2024, heavy rains led to widespread flooding in Dubai and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates ("UAE"). The floods caused significant structural damage and disruption, affecting numerous facilities and businesses across the UAE. Our operations were also impacted during this period and returned to normalcy approximately in two weeks."

    The company's shares closed Thursday's trade session at Rs 519.10 apiece, up from Rs 518 over the previous day, on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

    It reported 9.9 million annual unique transacting customers, up 16.5 percent versus September 2023. The gross merchandise value (GMV) at Rs 2528.6 crore was up 21 percent versus Q2 FY24.

    India multi-channel business delivered 38 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth in adjusted EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) along with revenue growth of 19 percent YoY in Q2 FY25.

    International business regained growth momentum in Q2 FY25 delivering 25 percent YoY revenue growth with continuous improvement in profitability, the company said in its investor presentation.

    FirstCry said that its international segment average order value (AOV) is 3.9 times AOV of India business.

    Spend per child on childcare products in FY24 in India was in the range of Rs 9,280 – 9,350 versus spends of Rs 61,000 – 71,000 in Saudi Arabia and Rs 160,000 – 170,000 in UAE.

    Childcare products market size in FY29 is estimated to reach Rs 5,15,000 crore - 5,45,000 crore while it is expected to reach Rs 64,000 crore – 68,000 crore in Saudi Arabia and Rs 24000  – 28000 crore in UAE.
