General Motors India plans to export over 70,000 vehicles this year to various markets including Central and South America.

In 2015, GM India exported 21,000 Chevrolet vehicles to 40 countries, including Chile and Mexico.

"This year there will be a significant growth in exports with an additional 50,000 units, reinforcing the importance of the market and the strong local supplier base," General Motors India said in a statement.

Last month, the company shipped 7,661 units of Chevrolet Beat vehicles, its highest ever number, to various markets in Central and South America.

Majority of the vehicles - 7,254 units - were shipped to Mexico in September.

"We are proud of our hardworking and professional employees, who can celebrate this milestone for the highest number of exports for Beat," GM India VP, Planning and Exports Srini Rajagopalan said in a statement.

This milestone is a testament to the company's commitment to providing the highest quality standards to global customers from the Talegaon plant in Maharashtra, he added.

GM India began vehicle exports to Chile in September 2014.

It exports the left hand drive Beat to countries including Mexico, Chile, Peru, Central American and Caribbean Countries (CAC), Uruguay and Argentina.

GM India has so far exported 70,072 units of Chevrolet Beat and it became the sixth most exported passenger vehicle out of India during 2015-16 fiscal.

Among other global manufacturing locations, Beat is produced at GM India's manufacturing facility at Talegaon.

Beat, badged as Spark outside India, is available in more than 70 markets worldwide and has sold over 1 million units.
