Bengaluru's traffic police have directed ride-hailing and delivery companies to integrate no-parking zones into their driver apps, in an attempt to curb illegal parking on city roads and improve traffic flow by reducing congestion, particularly on arterial roads.

One senior traffic police official said a digital map of all restricted parking zones in the city has been created and made available through a real-time no parking compliance API. “This data is updated regularly and refreshed monthly. We have asked aggregators to use this API to alert drivers when they stop in prohibited areas,” the official said.

The city traffic police reached out to companies including Ola, Uber, Rapido, Flipkart, Amazon, Swiggy, Zomato, and Namma Yatri, urging them to enable their operations teams to monitor compliance and track repeat violations for internal action.

The directive follows complaints that gig workers with ride-hailing and delivery services often park in no-parking areas, contributing to traffic congestion and posing safety risks on busy roads.
