Regular and Direct options of the funds are exactly same except commission to your mutual fund broker/distributor. As an investor you do not need to pay any additional fees to purchase any of these options. However both have different expense ratios. Regular funds have higher expense ratio and direct funds have lower expense ratio. This difference is because of commission paid to broker/distributor. Tax Rate

You can not sell your investments in this fund for 3 years from the purchase date. Long term capital gain tax will be applicable when you sell your investments after 3 years. Current tax rate is 12.5%, if your total long term capital gain exceeds 1.25 lakhs in a financial year. Any cess/surcharge is not included. However, you can claim a deduction on your taxable income under section 80c for your investments in this fund. (Current tax deductions are capped at 1.5 lakh per year).
