Style that doesn’t scream gym: Redefine power moves with modern activewear for style, comfort

For 2025, activewear is embracing what many are calling “technical lifestyle dressing”, which is a hybrid of fashion and function that fits anywhere from the hiking trail to an airport terminal.

In today’s style conscious world, where fashion merges seamlessly with function, activewear has carved out a permanent place far beyond the gym floor. No longer limited to early morning runs or gym sessions, activewear has evolved into a lifestyle statement and it speaks to comfort, mobility, and style in equal measure. As fitness routines become more integrated with daily routines, so too has the wardrobe shifted.

The athleisure movement, once seen as a trend, is now a wardrobe staple, and activewear brands are at the forefront of this shift. The future of activewear isn’t just performance-focused but also up market. It’s about investing in garments that empower you to move, live, and look good doing it. “Activewear today is not just about looking good, it’s about feeling supported, breathable, and confident while moving,” says Prithvi Bhagat, Founder of STRCH Activewear Pvt. Ltd.

As Indian consumers get more conscious and style-savvy, it’s always a good idea to invest in designs that feel as good as it looks. Bhagat adds, “When investing in good quality activewear this season, prioritize performance-driven fabrics like nylon-spandex blends, recycled polyesters, and mesh panels that offer sweat-wicking, anti-odor, and UV-protective properties. While shopping online, always check the fabric composition, stretch quality, breathability, and customer reviews. Indian weather demands pieces that are lightweight, quick-dry, and non-restrictive — especially during monsoons and humid months. When it comes to Indian body types, function-forward designs matter. High-waisted leggings, structured sports bras, and tapered joggers provide the right balance of form and comfort. Avoid overly tight compression unless it’s part of your training regime. Instead, look for ergonomic cuts and 4-way stretches that move with your body.”

Fit for all seasons:

In India, where the climate can shift from blistering heat to high humidity in a matter of hours, performance fabrics are not just helpful but they’re quite essential. Breathability, moisture control, and flexible construction are now non-negotiables for anyone purchasing activewear, whether for yoga, pilates, or simply navigating a packed day on the go.

What’s also refreshing is the turn toward style that doesn’t scream 'gym'. For 2025, activewear is embracing what many are calling “technical lifestyle dressing”, which is a hybrid of fashion and function that fits anywhere from the hiking trail to an airport terminal. Think colour-blocked and tonal co-ord sets, relaxed gender-neutral silhouettes, minimalist branding, and utility-inspired touches like cargo pockets or adjustable drawstrings.

There’s a strong inclination towards earthy tones, dopamine pastels, and vibrant brights, reflecting the consumer’s desire to feel upbeat, expressive, and grounded. Bhagat notes, “For outdoor styling, the key is layering smartly. Women can throw on oversized linen shirts or utility vests over their sports bra and tights. Men can pair their performance tees with cargo joggers and trainers. Accessorise with bucket hats, sneakers, and belt bags to complete the look. Whether you’re going on a hike, stepping out for errands, or just lounging; modern activewear should make you feel powerful and comfortable all day.”
