Many celebrities swear by natural skincare routines, and Esha Deol is no exception. In a March 16 interview with Mamaraazzi, Esha was asked about the homemade beauty tips she learned from her mother, veteran actor and politician Hema Malini. Her family’s skincare secrets highlight how simple, natural ingredients can be highly effective in achieving healthy, radiant skin.

Esha’s go-to remedy for removing tan

Esha shared in Hindi, “As kids, we often applied homemade chana (gram) paste on our skin. I’m not sure why, but our mother always insisted on it. Another trick I learned from her was applying a mixture of glycerin and lemon on her hands and feet after returning from shoots."

She adds, "When I asked her why, she explained that it helps remove tan caused by the harsh studio lights. Even today, I follow this method because glycerin and lemon are great for tan removal.”

Why glycerin and lemon work for tan removal

Glycerin (or glycerol) is a natural compound derived from vegetable oils or animal fats. It is a clear, colourless, and syrupy liquid known for its humectant properties, meaning it attracts moisture into the skin, keeping it soft and hydrated.

While glycerin locks in moisture, reduces dryness, and helps fade dark spots, lemon juice acts as a natural astringent and antiseptic, brightening and evening out skin tone.

Combine one tablespoon of glycerin with a few drops of fresh lemon juice. Using a cotton ball, apply the mixture evenly to your face. Let it sit for 20 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water. For optimal results, use this remedy twice a week.

However, caution is advised—lemon juice can be harsh, especially for sensitive skin. Always conduct a patch test before use, and avoid sun exposure immediately after application, as lemon juice can increase skin sensitivity to UV rays.
