Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2025: Dev Uthani Ekadashi is also known as Prabodhini Ekadashi, it marks the end of the four-month Chaturmas period when Lord Vishnu is believed to awaken from his divine sleep (known as Yognidra). This day holds great importance in Hinduism as it signifies the resumption of auspicious ceremonies such as marriage, griha pravesh (housewarming) and mundan rituals that remain suspended during Chaturmas.

As per the Hindu Panchang, the Ekadashi Tithi begins at 9:12 AM on November 1 and ends at 7:31 AM on November 2. Since the Ekadashi tithi is prevailing during sunrise, Dev Uthani Ekadashi will be observed on Sunday, November 2, 2025. The Parana or fast-breaking time falls on November 3, 2025 (between 5:48 AM and 8:03 AM).

Devuthani Ekadashi, or Devothaan Ekadashi, is deeply revered as the day when Lord Vishnu wakes from Yognidra, symbolising the awakening of divine energy. According to scriptures, observing a fast and offering prayers on this day grants blessings of prosperity, harmony, and liberation (moksha). Devotees believe that worshipping Lord Vishnu with devotion on Prabodhini Ekadashi brings happiness and success in life, while also earning the grace of Goddess Lakshmi.

The day of Dev Uthani Ekadashi is also marked by the sacred Tulsi Vivah — the symbolic wedding of Goddess Tulsi (holy basil) with Lord Vishnu, in his Shaligram form. The ritual signifies the divine union that restarts the season of auspicious events in Hindu culture.
In states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan, Prabodhini Ekadashi is celebrated with grandeur. The Pushkar Fair in Rajasthan begins on this day, and the Pandharpur Yatra in Maharashtra concludes with prayers and bhajans.

Spiritual Importance in Scriptures

The Skanda Purana highlights the significance of Prabodhini Ekadashi. It narrates that Lord Brahma explained its importance to Sage Narada, saying that those who observe the Ekadashi Vrat with pure devotion are freed from sins and attain Vaikuntha, the abode of Lord Vishnu. Bathing in sacred rivers or holy waters on this day is considered especially meritorious.
