Blame it on everyday challenges or busy work schedules, high blood pressure, or hypertension, is a rampant health condition in modern times. It is important to understand the symptoms, signs, causes and risk factors of hypertension as these can cause severe health issues if left unaddressed.

Signs and symptoms of hypertension:

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), high blood pressure often has no clear symptoms and can slowly harm your body. When subtle symptoms do occur, they may include headache, blurred vision, dizziness, fatigue and nosebleeds when the blood pressure levels are extremely high.  Alongside, chest pain and shortness of breath can also suggest hypertension.

Causes and risks:

Beginning from genetics, and medical conditions to lifestyle habits, there are many factors that contribute to hypertension. Shortness of breath, and nosebleeds. Causes can vary from genetics and family history to lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and stress. If your diet includes high sodium, if you live a sedentary lifestyle, where physical activity is negligible, or if you drink excessive alcohol or are obese, you may be at a higher risk. Moreover, if you are a smoker and get stressed easily the condition might worsen. Also, people with diabetes and kidney disease are more susceptible to hypertension. A few positive lifestyle changes can help combat these conditions.

Preventive tips:

To begin with, follow a daily routine where regular exercise and, a balanced diet are mandatory. Follow a low sodium, high fiber diet that includes fruits, vegetables and whole grains, those that help to manage blood pressure. Simple exercises like walking or yoga can boost heart health and circulation. Alongside, quitting smoking, limiting alcohol and managing stress through meditation and prayers can calm you and lower the risk of blood pressure.
