Ganesh Chaturthi festival is one of the most auspicious celebrations in India. On these sacred days, several devotees also keep fasts to honour Lord Ganesha. Fasting makes one feel very pure and disciplined but it can also cause tiredness, dizziness or lethargy — especially when you have all the preparations for the festival to take care of along with your daily work schedule. This is because your body is getting fewer calories which is not good for your glucose levels and stamina.

But the good news is that you can keep moving and still feel energetic without compromising the integrity of your fast. If you eat and hydrate wisely, little will drain you as well. These instant energy sources are fasting friendly and will make sure you are wide awake and full of energy all day long, says Dr Meera Kulkarni, Nutrition Expert at Shree Health & Wellness Hospital, Mumbai.

Start Your Day with Hydration

Have a glass of warm water with lemon or soaked basil seeds. Adequate hydration keeps energy levels up and headaches due to dehydration at bay.

Include Energy-Dense Fruits

During fasting, bananas, apples and papayas are perfect. They offer quick energy in the form of natural sugars along with vitamins to increase endurance.

Opt for Nuts and Dry Fruits

One gets full of proteins, good fats and fast energy from healthy sugar, like almonds, cashew nuts or dates. Just a handful can sustain you for several hours.

Coconut Water: The Immediate Source of Electrolytes

Coconut water restores electrolytic balance and cools your body. It’s perfect to use as a natural energy drink for fasting days.

Use Milk-Based Drinks

Quick milk smoothies or a glass of cold milk with cardamom or saffron is a fast relief while preserving the fast.

Eat Small Portions Frequently

Avoid having one heavy meal which will not give you energy, rather divide your meals in the form of an electric-rich chunk like fruits, makhani, or boiled sweet potatoes.

Avoid Fried or Oily Foods

While it might be quite appealing, piling up heavy fried items will leave you sluggish. Opt for lighter, steamed, or roasted for long-lasting energy.
