Just as the excitement surrounding Hrithik Roshan's marriage to his long-time girlfriend Suzanne began to settle, controversy erupted in Nepal, reportedly triggered by a statement he denied ever making. The drama unfolded just days before his wedding, as rumours in Bollywood began circulating about a possible link between Hrithik and Kareena Kapoor.

The media frenzy reached a fever pitch when columnist Shobha De accused Hrithik of being "caught coochie-cooing" with Kareena on a flight just before his marriage.

As per Bollywood Hungama, when Hrithik’s father, Rakesh Roshan, was contacted for a statement, he firmly rejected the allegations, calling the story “fabricated” and aimed at tarnishing Hrithik’s reputation.

He was particularly irked by De’s claim, asserting that she was mistaken about their time in London filming Subhash Ghai’s Yaadein.

Rakesh explained, “Shobha De doesn’t even know they were shooting together in London for Subhash Ghai’s Yaadein. She wrote that Kareena had gone to London to meet Hrithik. And please, Hrithik has more sense than to cootchie-coo on a plane full of people.”

The timing of the story raised suspicions, with Rakesh expressing his surprise that a respected journalist like De would publish such a piece. He reiterated that Hrithik and Kareena shared nothing more than a friendship, dismissing the rumours as baseless.

The reddit report shows that despite the denial, Shobha De stood by her report, stating that her information came from a reliable source and an eyewitness who had allegedly seen the two actors on a British Airways flight.

“I stand by that completely. I found out that information from a very good source and an eye-witness and it happened on a British Airways flight,” De declared.

She challenged Hrithik to deny the incident, saying, “He can deny it all he wants. Stars deny things they find unacceptable about themselves, but I challenge him to the veracity of what happened on that flight.”

Hrithik, however, did deny the claims, maintaining that the entire episode was blown out of proportion.

As per times of India, Hrithik talked about the rumours and mentioned, “The fling with Kareena? (laughs). Is it over, or what? Seriously the timing was ugly. Thankfully my friends, family and Suzanne trust me enough not to believe in such talk,” he responded, reiterating that Kareena had always been a close friend to both him and his wife Suzanne.

He emphasised that his relationship with Kareena was purely platonic, and he felt bad for her because the media had misrepresented her.

"I don’t feel bad for myself. I only feel bad for her. Because she’s such a sweet girl. She’s been completely misunderstood and misrepresented in the media. That’s partly because she just says anything that comes to her mind. She’s brutally honest. At heart, she’s a very clean girl."

Kareena also reacted to the swirling rumours, expressing her shock at the timing of the allegations, which surfaced just on the day of Hrithik’s wedding.

In an interview with Free Press Journal, she remarked, “What was that? Do they think I’m so stupid to do something like this publicly? And the timing, on the day of Hrithik’s wedding, was in very bad taste. If it had come earlier, one could laugh it off as idle gossip.” She clarified her stance on the matter, reaffirming that there was nothing between her and Hrithik apart from a good, clean friendship.

“Once and for all, there’s nothing between me and Hrithik except good, clean friendship. There cannot be anything else between us. He’s attached elsewhere, and I refuse to share my man with another woman. He’s happily married now. And I’m not a home-breaker. I can never be,” she stated firmly.

Kareena went on to further explain her feelings, mentioning that Suzanne knew her well and trusted her, and that she would never want to hurt another woman.

“Suzanne knows me too well. She knows exactly the kind of person I am. Why would I want another woman’s man, and that too a woman I like and respect? That way, I’m very selfish. I want a man I can keep for myself. And I won’t share my man with anybody.”

The rumours were first surfaced during the filming of Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai when Kareena was initially supposed to make her debut opposite Hrithik. However, due to some reasons, she was replaced by Ameesha Patel. Later, the two actors worked together in films such as Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon, and Yaadein, where their sizzling on-screen chemistry further fuelled the rumours of a romance.

Hrithik and Suzanne eventually separated in 2014, but at the time of the affair rumours, both insisted that their marriage was strong and built on mutual trust.

In the end, while the controversy over Hrithik, Kareena, and the “coochie-cooing” incident may have faded, it left an indelible mark on the media’s portrayal of their relationships. As for Hrithik and Kareena, despite the rumours, their friendship remains intact, with Kareena having gone on record to say that working with Hrithik was always a pleasure and that their bond was nothing more than a close, honest friendship.
