Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is going to return to the small screens soon with its second season. The show, which achieved a cult status in the 2000s starred Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay the lead roles of Tulsi and Mihir Virani.
Smriti Irani has now revealed that the sequel had been on the cards for the past decade but it was on hold due to her political career. Smriti Irani was on a show called We The Women with Karan Johar and Barkha Dutt, which was shot in London.
“If you look at the Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi journey in totality, the most well-kept secret about it was I had a contract to do it again in 2014, and I walked away from it because I had to serve in the Indian Parliament as a cabinet minister,” she said.
Smriti Irani also revealed that the production work had already begun but she then received a life changing calls from the PM's office. “The set was ready, but there was a phone call from the Prime Minister's office that you have to take an oath,” she added.
After its debut in 2000, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi revolutionised Indian television and became a cultural phenomenon. Ektaa Kapoor's daily serial chronicled the Virani family's dramatic ups and downs, with Smriti Irani's Tulsi serving as its emotional centre.
Now cut to the year 2025, when the highly anticipated return of the programme is finally about to happen. Amar Upadhyay will be returning as Mihir, and Smriti Irani will be reprising her role of Tulsi Mihir Virani.
There has been a little holdup in production, even though the show's original release date was July 3. Ektaa Kapoor sought certain set adjustments, according to a source. The delay is due to her reworking on the set.
Amar Upadhyay had confirmed to HT that there is a delay. “Yes, it’s true. The set had to be reworked. Apparently, the colour combination on screen wasn’t translating the way it should. Ektaa knows exactly what she wants—she’s a perfectionist. And this is Kyunki… it’s not just another show. It’s a legacy and she wants to do everything what’s best for the show," he said.
Shakti Anand also shared a video of them beginning the shoot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2.
