The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, has officially ended his journey as The Weeknd with the release of his new album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, on Friday, January 31. This album marks the final chapter in his trilogy, following After Hours (2020) and Dawn FM (2022).
Originally, Hurry Up Tomorrow was set to come out on January 24, but The Weeknd delayed the release to support the wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles. He also donated $1 million to help those affected by the fires. Additionally, he canceled a special one-night album release show at the Rose Bowl, which was planned for January 25.
The new album features three singles: "Dancing in the Flames," "Timeless" (which includes Playboi Carti), and "São Paulo," a collaboration with Anitta. The song "Timeless" reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, showing how successful it has been.
In addition to the album, The Weeknd is making his acting debut in a psychological thriller movie titled Hurry Up Tomorrow. The film, directed by Trey Edward Shults, also stars Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. The Weeknd, along with his long-time music partner Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), will score the film. The movie is set to be released in theaters on May 16 by Lionsgate.
This new album closes the chapter on The Weeknd’s career, which began 14 years ago. In 2011, he released three mixtapes—House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence—which later became part of his Trilogy compilation album. These mixtapes helped him rise to fame and kickstart his career in music.
You can now listen to Hurry Up Tomorrow and experience the end of an era for one of the biggest stars in music today.
