The trailer of Suriya's upcoming movie Retro kicked off with a big bang in Chennai on Friday and sharing the stage alongside Suriya were Karthik Subbaraj, Suriya's director and Pooja Hegde, the actor's co-star.
That there was everything from energy to fans galore to an adorable moment where Suriya called his wife Jyotika ‘kannadi poo’ — diametrically opposite of how Jyotika’s name stands in the hearts of Suriya.
The expression, which means “glass flower,” is also the name of a romantic song featured in the film. “There’ll be so many layers to the film – love, laughter and war,” Suriya said during his speech. “Enjoy it. I love you all. And I am here because of your love. And of course, I am grateful to my kannadi poo, Jo. This journey would not be as joyful without her,” he added.
Suriya and Jyotika, who are one of the most loved pairs in Kollywood, have been married for almost 2 decades, but they still share the same personal and professional chemistry.
Retro's new trailer gives a glimpse of a colourful, action-filled world. Suriya is a man attempting to get his act together after he falls in love with Pooja Hegde’s character. But his bloody past won’t let him go. The trailer offers glimpses of intense action sequences, emotional beats and quirky moments — all presented in Karthik Subbaraj’s signature storytelling style.
We see Suriya fighting enemies, demons inside, and his instincts. Actor Joju George features as the antagonist, while popular names like Jayaram, Prakash Raj and Nassar form part of the supporting cast.

Expectations are sky-high after the massive success of Karthik’s Jigarthanda Double X. The film also represents an important return for Suriya after the disappointing show of his previous release, Kanguva.
This is Retro as a general overview, with its mixture of romance, action and quirky drama sure to create a rollercoaster ride in the cinema on May 1.
