Rahul’s century came at a critical juncture in the match. Alongside Rishabh Pant, who scored a contrasting ton, Rahul helped set England a daunting target of 371 runs to win the first Test. England managed to reach 21/0 at stumps on Day 4, leaving the match finely poised with all results possible on the final day.

This century marks KL Rahul’s first Test hundred in nearly 18 months, his previous ton being against South Africa in Centurion in December 2023. Notably, this is his third century in England, making him the only Indian opener to achieve the feat. Out of his nine Test centuries, eight have come while opening the batting, reaffirming his credentials as one of India’s most dependable openers overseas.
