In his address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underlined the importance of self-reliance through the “swadeshi mantra,” recalling how swadeshi played a vital role in India’s freedom struggle.

“The comb in our pocket—whether it is made in India or not, we don’t even know,” he said, urging citizens to consciously choose indigenous products. “We need to buy made-in-India products and make every household a symbol of swadeshi. Garv se kaho, ye swadeshi hai.”

Modi said embracing swadeshi would accelerate India’s journey towards becoming a developed country. He also called on state governments to push manufacturing, encourage ‘Made in India,’ and create new opportunities for investment.

Underscoring the importance of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), Modi said the reforms will particularly support them. “I have a lot of expectations from MSMEs. They were key contributors to the economy during India’s golden years. We need to return to that age,” he stated, calling on manufacturing units to produce world-class, top-quality products.

In his address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said most everyday items will now become cheaper under the new GST structure. He noted that 99 per cent of goods earlier attracting 12 per cent tax have been shifted to the 5 per cent bracket.

Highlighting the government’s welfare record, the Prime Minister said 25 crore people have risen out of poverty in the last 11 years to join the “neo-middle class,” which has its own aspirations and dreams. To support this class further, he said income up to ₹12 lakh has been exempted from tax.

“This is expected to make a big difference to the middle class. We are delivering a double bonanza to the neo-middle class, middle class and the poor,” Modi said. He added that travel will also become more affordable as most hotel rooms now fall under a lower GST slab.

In his address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his government had made GST a priority and resolved all issues raised by the states by bringing all stakeholders together to deliver the landmark tax reform.

He underlined that reform is a continuous process and stressed the need for next-generation changes to keep pace with the times. “This reform has been done keeping in mind the future needs of the nation,” he said, noting that the new structure has been simplified to just two tax rates — 5 per cent and 18 per cent.
