Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that India will take an important step towards building an Atmanirbhar Bharat from the first day of Navratri, stressing the need for quality manufacturing and swadeshi practices to strengthen the economy.
"On the first day of Navratri, September 22, next-generation GST reforms will be implemented. From tomorrow, India will mark the GST Bachat Utsav from tomorrow. GST Bachat Utsav would lead to savings and people will be able to purchase things easily," he said.
The Prime Minister said that all sections of society will benefit from this as it would lead to more happiness. "I congratulate people on this bachat utsav. This will accelerate the growth story and attract investments."
The Prime Minister said that GST has not only simplified India’s indirect tax regime but also delivered major savings for the poor, middle class and neo-middle class.
While addressing the nation, the Prime Minister highlighted the role of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in shaping India’s economic past and future. “I have a lot of expectations from MSMEs. Our MSMEs were the contributors to the economy during India’s golden years. We need to return to that age,” he said.
Modi said that the upcoming GST reforms will provide a major boost to MSMEs, enabling them to compete more effectively in both domestic and global markets. He urged India’s manufacturing units to focus on world-class standards. “Our manufacturing units need to produce top-quality products. India needs to be recognised with top-quality products,” he said.
Calling for a revival of the swadeshi spirit that powered India’s freedom struggle, the Prime Minister said the country’s development must rest on the foundation of homegrown industries. “The comb in our pocket is made in India or not, we don’t know. We need to buy made-in-India products. We need to make every household a symbol of swadeshi. Garv se kaho ye swadeshi hai,” he added.
The Prime Minister emphasised that every citizen’s purchasing choices can contribute to national growth, urging people to consciously support Indian-made goods.
