The upcoming Independence Day is set to be a major event for Bollywood, with three highly anticipated Hindi films releasing simultaneously: Stree 2, Vedaa, and Khel Khel Mein. As expected, the advance ticket bookings have shown a clear leader, with Stree 2 pulling far ahead of the competition.
Stree 2 led by Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has been dominating the advance booking charts. As of now, the film has sold nearly 3.85 lakh tickets, amassing a whopping Rs 11.41 crore in revenue. The film’s popularity is not surprising, given the success of the original Stree, which was a surprise hit, blending horror and comedy in a way that resonated with audiences. The advance booking for Stree 2 has already surpassed the opening day numbers of other Shraddha Kapoor starrers like Baaghi, Half Girlfriend and Street Dancer 3D. By the end of the day, Stree 2 is expected to overtake the opening day collections of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar and Baaghi 3, which earned Rs 25.73 crore and Rs 17.50 crore respectively.

The makers of Stree 2 have planned special shows for the film on August 14th, with the first screenings beginning at 8 PM. Industry insiders predict that *Stree 2* could potentially surpass the lifetime collection of the original Stree, which was around ₹127 crore, within the first week itself. This is a clear indication of the massive anticipation and excitement surrounding the film. Maharashtra and Delhi circuits have been leading the advance booking charge, with collections of ₹2.92 crore and ₹2.67 crore, respectively.
In stark contrast, Vedaa starring John Abraham and Sharvari, has sold just over 24,000 tickets, accumulating a total of ₹58.90 lakh from its 3700 shows. Vedaa had initially led the advance booking race against Khel Khel Mein but the momentum has since shifted, with Khel Khel Mein trailing slightly behind. Khel Khel Mein has collected around ₹59.50 lakh in advance sales, which is marginally higher than Vedaa. The film features Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, and Taapsee Pannu, and despite the strong star cast, it seems that the buzz around the film hasn’t translated into ticket sales.
The slow advance bookings for Vedaa could be attributed to the recent headlines the film faced due to censor issues. Over nine minutes of content were cut by the revising committee, which might have dampened the enthusiasm among some potential viewers. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, the film has a gripping plot with John Abraham playing a court-martialed Army officer who aids Sharvari’s character in her fight against a repressive system. The film releases on August 15th, clashing directly with Stree 2 and Khel Khel Mein
Stree 2s overwhelming lead in advance bookings is a testament to the film's popularity and the strong brand value it has built since the first installment. The film is part of Dinesh Vijan’s expanding horror-comedy universe, which also includes Bhediya starring Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. The universe is set to grow even further, with upcoming projects featuring stars like Abhay Verma, Mona Singh, and Sharvari in Munjya and the addition of vampires in a new film starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar.
Given the current advance booking trends, it’s clear that Stree 2 is the film to watch this Independence Day. With nearly 9800 shows lined up for the first day and strong advance sales, the film is poised to deliver a massive opening, leaving its competition far behind. The battle at the box office this August 15th may involve three films, but the winner seems almost certain: Stree 2 is on track to be the runaway success of the holiday weekend.
