Following an incident during his performance at East Point College in Bengaluru, Bollywood playback singer Sonu Nigam's recent concert has generated a lot of conversation. A student asked Sonu to sing in Kannada during the performance, which was interpreted as impolite.
The National Award-winning singer responded by pausing his performance in the middle of his performance and giving a moving speech to the audience. His remarks are currently becoming more and more popular on social media.
In the now-viral video, Sonu is seen expressing his thoughts, saying, “In my career, I have sung songs in many languages, but the best songs I have sung are in the Kannada language. "Main aapke beech mein jabbhi aata hoon bohut pyaar se aata hoon. Shows toh roz karte hain humlog, lekin jab kabhi bhi Karnataka mein kahi bhi shows hote hain hum bohut izzat se aate hai kyuki aap logo nein humien apna pariwaar maan hai. (Whenever I come among you, I come with so much love. We do shows every day, but whenever we do any shows anywhere in Karnataka, we come with respect, because you have made us your family)."
"Mujhe accha nahi laga ki waha ek ladka jiski umar, jitni uske umar nahi hogi use pehle toh main Kannada gaane garaha hoon. [I didn’t like the boy whose age, I have been singing Kannada songs before he was born.]" He added.
He then further addressed the situation, making a poignant comparison to the Pahalgam attack, saying, “This is the reason behind the incident in Pahalgam. Please see who is standing in front of you. I love you guys. I do a lot of shows around the world where thousands of people gather, and whenever I hear a single person shouting ‘Kannada,’ I definitely sing at least one line in Kannada for them. I love and respect all of you so much. So please be kind.”
Throughout his long career, Sonu Nigam has performed in 32 languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Hindi, Kannada, and many more. His extensive repertoire demonstrates his commitment to using music to respect and embrace diverse cultures.
