This vrat is mainly observed in the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and is also very popular in Nepal, where it is known as Jitiya Vrat.

Jivitputrika Vrat Puja Vidhi 2025

The ritual of Jivitputrika Vrat is described in the Hemadri Granth as Putriya Vrat. The puja vidhi is as follows:

  • On Krishna Ashtami of Ashwin month, women take a holy bath and perform daily rituals.
  • Worship is offered to Lord Vasudeva, along with oblations of ghee and kheer.
  • Women desiring a son consume fruits with masculine names such as banana, guava, custard apple, and melon.
  • Women desiring a daughter eat fruits with feminine connotations such as orange, pomegranate, star fruit, and jamun.
  • The fast is observed with complete dedication and faith, bringing blessings for children’s well-being.
