Dubai witnessed heavy rains on Tuesday, which led to flooding in the major city of the United Arab Emirates.

Singer Rahul Vaidya, who has been in the city for the past few days, has been sharing videos on his Instagram account to show how bad the situation is.

First, he shared a video of his hotel, the view, and then the heavy rains. Later, he was at the famous Dubai Mall, where he showed how there were long queues of people waiting at the exit gates for taxis and that the rain had caused havoc in Dubai.

Heavy thunderstorms lashed the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, dumping the heaviest rain ever recorded in the country in the span of hours as it flooded out portions of major highways and Dubai's international airport.

Rahul Vaidya next showed himself wading through the flooded roads with his trousers rolled up and sneakers in his hands as he walked towards his car.

He managed to reach Dubai Airport with the help of some of his friends. And while filming the flooded roads on his way to the airport, he said, “This is the condition in the city after two hours of rain. Dubai is not used to such heavy rains.”

The singer, who was also seen in Bigg Boss, made a video later saying that he managed to board the flight and will be reaching Kolkata soon.

The state-run WAM news agency called the rain a historic weather event that surpassed anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949. That's before the discovery of crude oil in this energy-rich nation, then part of a British protectorate known as the Trucial States.

The rains began late Monday, soaking the sands and roadways of Dubai with some 20 millimetres (0.79 inches) of rain, according to meteorological data collected at Dubai International Airport. By the end of Tuesday, more than 142 millimetres (5.59 inches) of rainfall had soaked Dubai over the past 24 hours. An average year sees 94.7 millimetres (3.73 inches) of rain at Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest for international travel and a hub for the long-haul carrier Emirates.
