The countdown to Sholay’s golden jubilee has officially begun, and fans of the 1975 classic are brimming with excitement. Directed by Ramesh Sippy, the cult film not only set new benchmarks for storytelling and performances in Bollywood but also became a timeless pop culture treasure.

Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra as Jai and Veeru, alongside an unforgettable ensemble cast including Amjad Khan, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, and Sanjeev Kumar, Sholay redefined Indian cinema with its gripping plot, power-packed performances, and dialogues that remain etched in memory even five decades later.

Ahead of its 50th anniversary on August 15, 2025, dairy giant Amul has jumped into the celebrations with one of its trademark witty topicals. Released on August 12, the illustration reimagines the legendary Yeh Dosti sequence — one of the most beloved moments from the film — where Jai and Veeru share a carefree bike ride symbolising their unbreakable bond.

In the Amul version, an animated Amitabh Bachchan rides the motorcycle while Dharmendra sits behind him, cheekily holding a half-eaten buttered toast in one hand and another slice in the other.

The artwork captures the warm nostalgia of the film while adding Amul’s signature food-centric twist. The punchy caption, “Poore Pachaas Saal – Amul Blockbuster,” cleverly ties the milestone to the brand’s long-standing tradition of celebrating iconic cultural moments.

The topical instantly resonated with fans, who have been reminiscing about the film’s unforgettable scenes, music, and characters. Songs like Yeh Dosti, sung by Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey, and dialogues such as “Kitne aadmi the?” continue to find new admirers across generations.

With Sholay turning 50, tributes like this not only celebrate its enduring charm but also underline its lasting impact on Indian cinema. Amul’s playful nod serves as a reminder that some friendships — and films — truly stand the test of time.
