Shekhar Suman shares an old family pic with his wife and their elder son, writes: "we went through severe depression"

Heeramandi actor Shekhar Suman wrote a long note remembering his elder son, Aayush, who passed away at a very young age from a rare heart disease.

While talking about his son Aayush, Shekhar Suman wrote about the immense pain and the difficult time his family went through after the sudden demise of their son.

Shekhar Suman shared an old family picture on his Instagram, which featured him with his wife and their son, Adhyayan. While sharing the pic, Shekhar wrote how both he and his wife, Alka, 'went through severe depression and despair for years.'

Shekhar, who is known for his hit TV shows 'Dekh Bhai Dekh', 'Simply Shekhar' and more, also mentioned that their son Adhyayan was very young at that time. He also mentioned that Adhyayan has become the reason they live.

He wrote: "We just came out of the greatest tragedy of our lives, having lost our elder son Aayush to a rare heart ailment. Things were very difficult. Alka and I went through severe depression and despair for years. Adhyayan was and is our great source of strength. He became a reason to live. We see Aayush in him. Addy was too small to understand the magnitude of this tragedy."

He went on to praise his wife, Alka, and called her their "Rock of Gibraltar," helping him sail through this tragedy.

"Alka was stronger than me. I crumbled and did not want to live. But Alka gave me a lot of support and kept the family together, standing like the rock of Gibraltar," he concluded.

Many took to the comment section; his friend and director Farah Khan wrote, "Shekharrrrr and Alka are still the rock."

When Shekhar spoke about Aayush,

It was only last year that Shekhar Suman spoke about the time when his elder son, Aayush, was diagnosed with endomyocardial fibrosis (EMF). He told ABP News then: "After we ran tests, we realized he had endomyocardial fibrosis (EMF); it is rare. We were told he had only 8 months to live; we felt like we would die too. He lived for four years."

"There hasn’t been a religious place I didn’t visit or medicine I didn’t try. There can be nothing more heartbreaking than a parent seeing their child dead; the wound has only deepened with time,” he had added.

Their son Aayush died at the age of 11 on April 3, 1995.

On the work front, Shekhar has featured in many hit movies in a career spanning over 4 decades. He was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut OTT series, 'Heeramandi.'
