Shabana Azmi, a cinematic icon, marks her 50th year in the Indian film industry. To honor her extraordinary career, the International Film Festival of South Asia (IFFSA) Toronto 2024 will pay tribute to her during its 13th edition. Azmi's significant contributions to Indian cinema have solidified her status as a beloved and respected figure in the industry.

Shabana's cinematic journey began in 1974 with Ankur, a pivotal film in the Indian parallel cinema movement. This era of socially conscious films, known for its neo-realist style, gained significant government backing in the 1970s. Azmi's impactful performance in Ankur propelled her to the forefront of this genre, establishing her as a versatile and critically acclaimed actress.

The actress is renowned for her outstanding performances in films such as Arth, Amar Akbar Anthony, Makdee, and Neerja. Her most recent significant role was in Karan Johar's  Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

Shabana was honored with the Padma Shri in 1988, a prestigious civilian award recognizing her contributions to Indian cinema.
