The trailer of Dhurandhar has set the internet on fire, with fans immediately diving into theories about whether the film takes inspiration from real events.
Much of the attention has centred on Ranveer Singh’s intense new avatar, leading to widespread speculation that his character may have been inspired by Major Mohit Sharma, the decorated Indian Army officer who famously went undercover as Iftikhar Bhatt to infiltrate Hizbul Mujahideen in the early 2000s.
The conversation grew louder when Madhur Sharma, Major Mohit Sharma’s brother, reached out on social media asking if the character drew from his late brother’s life. In a move that quickly calmed the rumour mill, director Aditya Dhar personally stepped in with a respectful, decisive clarification.
Responding directly to Madhur Sharma, he wrote, “Hi, sir - our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of braveheart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official clarification… if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family, and in a way that truly honors his sacrifice for the nation…”
Hi, sir - our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of braveheart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM.
This is an official clarification.
I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family,…— Aditya Dhar (@AdityaDharFilms) November 26, 2025
Major Mohit Sharma remains one of India’s most admired soldiers, posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra after he lost his life in Kupwara in 2009 while fighting terrorists.
Dhurandhar itself continues to garner attention, this time for its enormous runtime, even as the controversy fades.
According to early industry reports, Part 1 is currently estimated to be around three hours and thirty-two minutes long, making it one of the longest mainstream Bollywood releases in recent memory.

While the makers are staying tight-lipped about the exact duration, insiders believe the final cut will remain close to the three-and-a-half-hour mark.
The film has already begun its certification process with the CBFC, meaning the confirmed runtime will be known soon.
A source familiar with the project explained why the film needed such an expansive canvas:
“Dhurandhar tells a vast story and hence the lengthy run time.”
